Is it really going to be a big WAVE - tsunami of sorts - only time will tell.
Going by the current statistics, the media attention and the huge figures running by it sure looks like it.
India's e-commerce industry may reach $70 billion by 2020
This may well be a reality. The infrastrucure has improved, security systems have matured and most importantly the ecosystem is in place. Statistics say that the adopters of the ONLINE shopping or the Ecommerce industry are between the age group of 18 - 34 years of age.
Election in INDIA is just around the corner & there are approx 149 Million new voters added to the voting list. 70% of Indian population will be in the age group of 18 - 35 years. Add one plus one and you have one of largest numbers of ecommerce users right in our country.
In one of the customer meetings I attended, I remember a smalltime retailer saying "The Buyer of today will not come to your Shop & hence the shopowner had no choice but to goto the Buyer" What he meant was that "Can't Touch, Won't Buy" is a thing of the past. The new INDIA is willing to buy without touching & majority of the Brands have now realised that Ecommerce or an Online presence cannot be neglected.
